Self-navigation cruises along the Caldon Canal are back!

A boat hire company will once again be running cruises along the spectacular Caldon Canal, through the beautiful Churnet Valley in Staffordshire,

Based at Denford near Leek in the Staffordshire Park District, Joshua is back in in the self navigating business.

Following a seven-month closure during nearby roadworks. Joshua Day Boat Hire, in Endon, has resumed business and offers a 35ft day self drive hire narrow boat, which can take up to 10 people for self-navigation day trips.

Within easy reach of Cheddleton, Leek, or Consall Forge the routes available feature locks, lift bridges, a tunnel, a canal junction, and an aqueduct

From Denford, you have a choice of destination for your day trip such as Cheddleton, Leek, Endon, or Consall Forge.

There are numerous pubs and eating places along the way, including a canal side pub (the Hollybush at Denford), as well as interesting places to visit and the beautiful scenery of the Churnet Valley to enjoy.

The boat has a cabin and a covered area in case of rain, as well as open areas at the bow and stern. There is a flush toilet, wash basin, kitchen sink, and electric hob. The boat is equipped with crockery and cutlery for up to 10 people.

Full operating instructions in handling the boat and operating locks and lift bridges are given, including practical tuition at the first lock.

Beginners can experience the Leek/ Cheddleton route, experienced boaters can choose either route, so long as they can demonstrate how locks work safely.

It should be noted that in a bid to avoid the boat being used for booze cruiss customers are only allowed to bring a small amount of alcohol onboard, customers who bring excess amount of alcohol will be asked to leave.
