First Amels 60 Begins Outfitting Phase

The hull of the first Amels 60 superyacht has arrived from Poland at Damen Yachting’s outfitting yard in the Netherlands ahead of her delivery in spring 2022.

The new 60-metre yacht designed by Espen Øino is the first of three semi custom yachts now under construction and the first of a new size of Limited Editions yachts.

The first Amels 60 will feature an owner-specified metallic grey hull with white and black superstructure.

The first will feature an owner-specified metallic grey hull with white and black superstructure.  In build for an experienced superyacht owner, and previous customer of the shipyard, the project is under supervision of the owner representative.  He has been closely involved in the hull construction at Damen Yachting’s hull building facility in Gdynia.

Although the hull has now reached the Netherlands, COVID-19 measures have badly impacted the project team’s plans and the yachts build progress.  “The travel restrictions make it difficult for me” says the owners representative, “but I am very confident in the Amels team. I have full confidence in the management, the production team and also the sub-contractors working on the yacht. I’m looking forward to seeing her in person as soon as possible. The hull looks very exciting.”

Features

The Amels 60 stands out with a huge open Sun Deck,  space for a 9-metre luxury tender, a generous 830 gt interior volume, hybrid power and propulsion technology and of course her distinctive Espen Øino signature lines.

“It’s certainly nice to see some pictures of the hull,” Espen comments. “A lot of people have complimented us on her looks. She looks beautiful, she looks like what I had in my head. The thing with modelling in 3D today you get few surprises. But still nothing replaces the first time you go on board. When you go on board, it comes alive. You know if the spaces feel right. So I’m looking forward to visiting the shipyard.”

Introduced in 2019, the new semi custom design represents a new phase in the yard’s new build programme. The first Limited Editions yacht was delivered back in 2007 and the builder has delivered more than 40 Limited Editions yachts to date.

Damen Yachting’s business model of upfront investment in engineering and construction, while maximising customisation and evolution, represents a difference between full custom yacht by reducing delivery time from several years to as little as a few months.

The first Amels 60 will feature an interior by Winch Design

Damen Yachting’s interior team, in collaboration with Winch Design, is simultaneously creating the bespoke interiors. Jim Dixon, Director of Yachts and Aviation at Winch Design, says the harmonious custom interiors capture the feel and style of a relaxed family home on the water, promoting a ‘calm atmosphere and involuntary relaxation’.

“For the most part, we have used pure and natural materials to emphasise the relaxed ‘home at the beach’ spirit of the interior,” Jim says. “However, we have added layers of surface interest to materials such as stones and timbers to create unique and tactile finishes.”
