Wider Sells Again
It was not that long ago that Wider the Italian based yacht builder was sold by its founders to the Genting Group in Hong Kong. Now it seems they have got bored with it and have decided to move it on.
Genting Hong Kong Limited is a company heavily involved in the cruise ship and cruise related operations along with leisure, entertainment and hospitality activities.
Now a Monegasque group called Nautical Hybrid Tech along with the Zepter Group and Hopafi Holding Srl have acquired the entire ownership of the company, signing the beginning of a new era for Wider and many exciting news to be unveiled in the near future. To be led by Marcello Maggi, a nautical industry veteran of more than 30 years, Wider will now concentrate on green energy yachting.
The three new investors will attempt to accelerate the company growth and plan to list it on the stock exchange within three years.
Marcello Maggi Nautical Hybrid Tech has been appointed President and Sales & Marketing Director. He will be based in the Monaco office. Born in Ancona, but living for more than 20 years in Monte Carlo, he has been involved with Italian shipyards, the likes of CRN and ISA, which he co-founded in 2001.
Philip Zepter’s Zepter Group has many activities and markets and owns companies such as Swisso Logical, Bioptron and Tesla Hyperlight Optics.
Hopafi Holding, is the investment vehicle of the Giovannetti Family. Tiziano Giovannetti controls two publicly listed companies in Italy and Eastern Europe and holds interests in several companies related to energy and sustainability.
Wider made its mark on the industry with two innovative day expanding boat designs and went on to build the 150 and the 165 superyachts. A pioneer of hybrid and green energy yachting, the serial hybrid propulsion system won multiple industry awards around the globe.
Both of the Superyachts built today have set new records with RINA, obtaining a perfect score for levels of sound and vibration holding a class notation of COMF (Y) 100/100, never assigned before on motor yachts.
RINA also bestowed upon them the RINA Platinum Green Plus Award for their green credentials.
Wider will continue building aluminium hybrid vessels and have concluded a license agreement with the Gentling owned Germany based, shipyard Lloyd Werft for hybrid yachts over 76 metres. These will be produced in Bremerhaven, consolidating the relationship between the two brands
