Signs of an Improving Superyacht Market

Dutch superyacht builder Heesen Yachts has signed up six new builds in the first ten months of this year making a bold statement that should bring cheer to the industry.

The signing of an order for a 65 metre fast displacement yacht rounds off a successful year for Heesen’s sales department and follows the sale of two 47-Mmetre full-displacement yachts, a 37-metre semi-displacement yacht, and two all-aluminium fully customised builds – one of 50-metres and the other of 35-metres.

Fabio Ermetto, Heesen’s Sales and Marketing Director comments: “Despite the financial crisis that is still affecting the yachting industry, Heesen Yachts has been able to sign six new contracts with a total length of 281 metres. This clearly shows that the financial standing and reliability of our company is highly appreciated by the market.”

Following the positive results of tank tests completed at the Wolfson Unit in April 2010, the company announced its revolutionary 65-Metre concept based on the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) at a press conference during the Monaco Yacht Show in September.

The FDHF is the result of design studies and tank tests carried out over 20 years by the highly respected Dutch Naval Architects, Van Oossanen and Associates.

Construction starts in mid-December 2010 at the Heesen shipyard in Oss, the Netherlands. While the aluminium hull will be manufactured in one shed, the yacht will be fitted out in the dry dock, which will be lengthened by about twelve meters to accommodate it.
