Tamsen to Build SuperYachts in Germany

Assets of SMG Werft set to become Superyacht Yard

Flushed with the success of his Tamsen 41 range of super yachts built in Turkey, Hamburg business-man Heiner Tamsen has acquired the assets of the insolvent SMG Werft in Rostock and plans to create a superyacht building refit and repair facility in the city under the name of Tamsen Maritim.

Having sold his luxury car dealerships, Tamsen is bucking the trend at a time when the yachting industry is suffering a shortfall in new build orders but he is confident that with the facilities at the shipyard backed by the experienced work force he will turn the company around.

His desire to build yachts with “Made in Germany” presence does not signify any dissatisfaction with the production facilities, which continues to produce yachts. To date three of the 41 metre yachts have been sold with delivery of the first unsold hull available for delivery in Spring 2011. The first new project to be built at the Rostock facility is likely to be a 55 metre superyacht that has already been commissioned and whose designs are being finalised.
