The brand new international yachting event dubbed the Thailand Yacht Show (TYS) has opened in Phuket.

Set against a backdrop of the emerald waters and limestone islands of Phang Nga Bay, the Show offers instant access to the open sea for test-rides and sea-trials.

Displays and demonstrations come from some of the biggest local and regional dealers, brokers, builders and suppliers, with a whole panoply of water craft from Seadoos to superyachts and everything in between.

The Show comes as interest in Thailand’s yacht charter potential is at its peak following the announcement that foreign-flagged superyachts may soon be able to charter in Thai waters.

With its pristine cruising grounds and prime location, connecting the Mediterranean to South East Asia and the Pacific beyond, Phuket is surely destined to establish itself as the principal hub for yachting in Asia.

Andy Treadwell, Managing Director the show commented, “The Thai Government is dedicated to developing a successful future for yachting in Thailand. We are delighted that some of the biggest and best local and regional dealers and brokers are all fully behind this government initiative, and are supporting the Show with a good number of smaller boats, as well as the superyachts they have for sale or charter.”

Show highlights include the 73m Titania, presented by Burgess Yachts. She offers two master suites, a dedicated massage room, a beauty salon, a large Jacuzzi with swim up bar, a fully qualified on board massage therapist and beautician, and beach club with sauna.

Perfect for Asian-based charters, the bizarrely painted 69m Saluzi is the largest charter yacht currently based in the region over the winter seasons. Her shallow draught allows her to sail closer to shore than other superyachts of this magnitude, giving charter guests easy access to coral reefs and diving sites. Built as a passenger ship the yacht now offers accommodation for 32 guests in 16 staterooms.

Ocean Emerald the 40 metre yacht designed by Lord Foster and now under new ownership is one of the few superyachts to be based in the region year round. The yacht played host to a VIP party at the show organised by the luxury resort hotel the Iniala Beach Resort.
