The services of Britain’s last ever passenger cargo liner are soon to end and a new life is being sought for this the last of the Royal Mail Ships.
Built to supply the island of St Helena, a UK Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic. RMS St Helena is to be sold following the completion of the island’s first airport.
The ship built in the UK and launched in 1990 is owned by St Helena Line Ltd and operated on behalf of the St Helena Government.
The 3130 dwt vessel flies the British flag, has a service speed of 14 knots and at 105 metres overall it is not inconceivable that her next role could be as a superyacht.
She can be inspected in London (Tilbury Docks) on 6th June and again on the 12th and 13th June.
The vessel will depart and steam back to Cape Town on 14th June
The owners will thereafter be inviting outright offers, based on delivery Cape Town July/August.
