The 40 metre Kanga built by the CCN shipyard in La Spezia, Italy has been destroyed after a fire broke out while she was cruising the waters off Croatia

The Croatian Ministry of Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure issued a statement declaring “The scene of the incident is being monitored, and efforts are targeted toward extinguishing the fire and preventing the vessel from sinking.”

The yacht caught fire during the morning of September 7th.  At the time Kanga was anchored off the south eastern side of the Pelješac peninsula between the islands of Olipa and Mali Vratnik.

All nine passengers with four accompanying crew were successfully evacuated from the yacht and there are no reports of serious injury.

The captain reported there are about 40 tons of diesel remaining in the fuel tanks, so the authorities will continue to monitor the situation for pollution and possible leakage.

Lists showing yachts attending both the Cannes Yachting Festival next week and the Monaco Yacht Show later this month indicate that the 490gt Kanga was to have been on display.

The RINA Classed vessel was recently delivered to her owners and was powered by twin Caterpiller C32 engines to give the yacht a maximum speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 15
