Global Marina Institute Appoints New Chairman

Porto Montenegro’s Marina Director, Tony Browne

The Global Marina Institute (GMI) has appointed its new Chairman.

At their annual meeting held during this year’s METS – Marine Equipment Trade Show., the position of Chairman of the Global Marina Institute was formally transferred to Porto Montenegro’s Marina Director, Tony Browne, having been held for the past three years by John Hogan CMP from Australia. 

As an official training and certification provider and partnership formed by the British Marine and Marina Industries Association, the GMI is responsible for the oversight of marina education, training and certification of marina personnel administered globally, with the aim of maintaining and increasing standards in marinas across the globe. 

In recent years under the Chairmanship of John Hogan, the institute has successfully re-established its cooperation with the US-based Association of Marina Associations, as well as completing a review and upgrade of its course content and cementing the Certified Marina Professional as a recognised and valued certification. With 10 years’ senior marina industry experience to bring to the table, Tony Browne takes on the new challenge and works towards further building upon professionalism within the industry so close to his heart.

“Porto Montenegro has certainly broken a record when it comes to the complexity of the event organisation for Polo in the Port – the lawn maintenance team worked hard for almost a year to ensure the new Arena was in place and fit for use in time for the event, and over one hundred team members were involved in the execution of the event, from Porto Montenegro, to Global Citizen and Sportgate. Part of the logistics also involved importing 52 horses to Montenegro, worth over a staggering 17.7 million euros”, remarks Senior Marketing and PR Manager at Porto Montenegro, Danilo Kalezic. 

The next Global Marina Institute course is due to be held in Dubai this December, with 10 enrolments on the Advanced Marina Management course and participants attending from five different countries.
