Seafarers Afloat is the on line home of the Merchant Navy Association Boat Club.
They operate the Seavue Scheme which formalises a method for members to use their eyes and ears when going afloat to “Spot, Plot, Report and Record” incidents and potential casualty situations to HM Coastguard or, for those who operate their boats on inland waterways, to the relevant safety authority for that particular waterway.
Aware that it is becoming increasingly important to keep an eye out for suspicious or unusual activity indicating potential illegal immigration or terrorism as requested by the Border Agency they also act as the emergency services’ “eyes and ears”, and reporting incidents to them in a speedy and effective manner, is the main contribution that we can make to safety on the water and to the national search and rescue community.
The Merchant Navy Association Boat Club works hard to support the RNLI’s “Respect the Water” campaign through its SeaVue Safety & Surveillance Scheme described in a new Flipbooks format leaflet in the SeaVue section of the website
Their www.seafarersafloat.com website hosts a “Leisure Section” where, if you click on the “publications button” you’ll see that we have launched an on-line edition of our Boating Basics Guide, by Clve Edwards and Captain Chris Wood.
The well written and concise booklet is aimed in particular at those venturing on the water for the first time in a hired vessel.
