At the Cannes Yachting Festival we chose to test drive four new yachts in the Azimut range.
Now we learn that each of the four we have chosen to review for yachting magazines around the world have won awards.
Organised by French magazine Yachts France the awards are held in parallel with the Cannes Yachting Festival, the World Yachts Trophies awarded there are some of the most coveted awards in the yachting industry.
In addition to the four awards, the organisers presented the shipyard with a special acknowledgement to mark the 40th anniversary of the Cannes boat show, and for having attended it right from the very outset while still continuing to be one of its main exhibitors.
The Azimut 60 was awarded the Best Layout Trophy in the 50’ to 80’ category.
The result of a design partnership between Stefano Righini for the exteriors and Achille Salvagni for the interiors, this yacht features several totally innovative solutions.
The Azimut Grande 27 Metri won the Most Achieved Trophy in the 80’ to 125’ category. The vertical bow and big full-height windows, which rise from the hull and extend up into the superstructure, give the boat a sporty, edgy character and are her signature features.
The Azimut Grande 35 Metri won the Best Interior Design Trophy in the 80’ to 125’ category. For us the highpoint of this yacht lies in the owner’s cabin. A private balcony uses a highly sophisticated deployment mechanism. The section of the full-height window with a carbon fibre frame folds out, while the floor of the balcony extends from under the cabin, protected by automatic stanchions. The result is a balcony, with no uprights or other obstacles to spoil the panoramic view from the suite.
Finally the Azimut S7, the latest arrival in the shipyard’s sports collection range, won the Best Technology Evolution Trophy and is a recognition of the shipyard’s investments in technology and R&D, including their post-curing oven for carbon fibre production at the Avigliana yard. Three Volvo IPS engines deliver join size and performance, with perhaps the best fuel efficiency on the market. The use of carbon fibre in the superstructure and pivoting platform mean that the Azimut S7 is the only boat in its segment to deliver so much space and 2-metre headroom on both the main and lower decks.
